Manchester City earn sweetest win yet

The FA Cup semi finals were the main event last weekend, with the Manchester derby taking centre stage. Manchester United got off to the better start with Dimitar Berbatov missing two guilt-edged chances, but City came into the game and dominated the second half. Yaya Toure scored what turned out to be the winner, sending the City fans into raptures. There was plenty of controversy too, as Paul Scholes got sent off, and Mario Balotelli angered Rio Ferdinand in his celebrations after the final whistle.
Man City will now face Stoke in the final, after Tony Pulis’ men hammered Bolton Wanderers 5-0 in the second semi. Stoke were in charge from start to finish, netting three goals in the first half before Jonathan Walters scored a second half brace. It is the first time Stoke have reached the final of the FA Cup and their loyal fans will be looking forward to the occasion in May and be dreaming that they can shock City at Wembley.
There was also plenty of Premier League action over the weekend, with the shares spoiled at The Emirates Stadium between Arsenal and Liverpool. Both the Gunners and the Reds scored penalties deep into injury time, with Dirk Kuyt levelling things up well after there were 100 minutes on the clock.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Wigan got a crucial three points to move them out of the relegation zone, winning 3-1 away to Blackpool who themselves are deep in trouble. As are Blackburn, who lost 2-0 away to Everton, and West Ham, who lost 2-1 at home to Aston Villa, with Gerard Houllier’s men climbing up the table. Chelsea also came from behind to beat West Brom 3-1 at The Hawthorns, while Sunderland’s dreadful run continues, this time Steve Bruce’s men lost 2-0 away to Birmingham, who are now above them in the table.
Last week also saw the culmination of the Champions League quarter finals, with Manchester United the last British team in the competition after beating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will now face Schalke after the Bundesliga club eased past defending champions Inter Milan. The other semi-final is an all-Spanish affair, with Barcelona facing Real Madrid after they completed comfortable victories against Shakhtar Donetsk and Tottenham respectively.
